Our Story

Sauru Bakehouse

Sauru Bakehouse rose from a single clay-warm oven in a Patan courtyard and one stubborn idea: that bread worth eating cannot be hurried. Our sourdough ferments for thirty-six hours, rising slowly so the crust caramelises deep and the crumb stays open and tender. Alongside it we bake the breads we grew up on — golden rings of sel roti, flaky lakhamari, and pastries laced with Himalayan honey.

We mill much of our flour from grain grown on terraced farms up the valley, and we shape everything by hand before dawn. Pull up a stool by the hearth, tear into a warm loaf, and stay a while. Order ahead by phone or WhatsApp; we happily accept eSewa, Khalti, and all major cards.

Kind Words

Loved Across the Valley

“The finest sourdough in the Valley, full stop — and the lakhamari alone is worth the trip to Patan.”
ECS Nepal
“I cross the river every Saturday for their sel roti and croissants. The warmth of the place is unreal.”
Sushmita Maharjan
“They baked the bread for our wedding. A year on, our guests still ask where it came from.”
